Early last week, Emma started talking about “Easter Eve.” She came up with this on her own, without parental input. As I was putting her to bed Saturday she very earnestly said, “Mom, Easter Eve is just as exciting as Christmas Eve!”

Although we were a little preoccupied this year, we managed to pull together a very nice, quiet Easter. Emma was awake before 6 am, bouncing with excitement. Aunt Julie came to visit, there was an egg hunt in Clark Park on Saturday, and the Easter bunny hid eggs in the back garden for Emma to find Sunday morning. A new soccer ball and some M&Ms rounded out the day.

Felix mostly sat this one out, but Emma has already declared that next year she will teach him how to find his Easter basket, and how to hunt for eggs. I look forward to it.

There was probably also a sign that read, “must wear shoes,” but Emma ignored that one, too.

two weeks

Felix is two weeks old today. We passed the day with some morning tummy time, two long walks in the beautiful spring weather, a trip to the library and ice cream shop with Emma, dinner with friends Sam, Megan and Frances, and several diaper changes. Things are really good here.

Andrew wrangling the children so that I can get in a full meal. I think he may have even gotten to enjoy a few bites himself.

Felix takes a moment away from the exhausting work of eating almost constantly (thus ensuring that he will soon grow enormous).

You would think, this being my second time around, that I would be used to the fact that time goes by so quickly.

But no. I cannot believe it’s already been a week.

Felix Alexander joined our family at 10:55 pm on March 22, 2012.

He arrived 2 days before his due date, though neither Andrew nor I really expected he would wait that long, anyway.

Felix and I came home yesterday, and everyone is settling into the routine of a family of 4. Emma has been truly amazing and is joyfully embracing her role as big sister. She adores Felix and he snuggles sleepily into her arms every time she holds him.

Of course we are tired, but I think I speak for both of us when I say that Andrew and I feel uncommonly lucky.

We spent Andrew’s birthday weekend at Stratton Mountain, in Vermont. In contrast to our last trip to Stratton, when Emma was only 18 months old and Andrew was incredibly optimistic, Emma actually got the skis on this year. Getting the skis on turned out to be the easy part. Wanting to immediately go up the mountain on the chair lift was a different story all together. She was fascinated by the ski school, which I think is going to be perfect for her next year. It would have been perfect this year, but the kids have to be 4 to enroll and while I know that Emma has all the necessary physical capabilities (and then some), I also know that had we tried to enroll her she would have told anyone who asked that she is, in fact, 3 years old. Se la vie. Next year she can have a blast in ski school, while I try to convince Andrew that the baby is indeed too young to start skiing.
